During the golden age of aviation in the 1930s, Rolex Oyster watches were on the wrist of many pilots. The Air-King was born as a tribute to the pioneers of that golden age.
Reference 5500 was produced for approximately 30 years, from the late 1950s to the late 1980s. It is one of the most representative references for those new to vintage Rolex.
The 34mm Oyster case, three non-date hands, smooth bezel and minimalist design are the main features of the Air-King.
The dial is a matte black dial with gold lettering, a rare combination for Air-King with a four-digit reference. The hands and indexes are also gold, giving the watch an appearance that is both sporty and gorgeous.
The dial and hands are lumed with tritium.
The movement is a automatic Cal.1520 with a hack function. This is a highly reliable movement that has been in service for more than 20 years despite its non-chronometer specifications.
The bracelet comes with a oyster bracelet 78350 from later years. It has 12 links which can be worn up to a wrist circumference of just over 18cm.

About Complete Service
Complete service, sometime called overhaul is the work of disassembling a mechanical product down to its individual parts, cleaning and reassembling it to bring it closer to its new state of performance.
Roughly speaking, the overhaul procedure is as follows.
1. Separate into case and movement
2. Disassemble the movement
3. Inspection and pre-cleaning of wear condition of each part
4. Wash parts with a special machine
5. Lubrication and assembly
6. Waterproof test
7. Final adjustment and running test.
Some movements are made up of hundreds of parts, but it is a very meticulous process of disassembling them one by one, inspecting them all, cleaning them, and reassembling them.
If you don't overhaul, the oil will deteriorate just like a car, and the risk of wear and damage to parts increases, causing a decrease in accuracy and, in severe cases, not working.
There is also the reason that it will be very expensive to replace parts after they are found to be damaged, so we recommend overhauling once every 2-3 years for economical and long-term use.
