-Description

Patek Philippe is a watch brand founded in Geneva in 1839. The company uses its unparalleled quality and technical expertise to make watches without any compromise.

The independence of the family business and the reliability that all watches can be repaired create a value as an asset that can be passed on from generation to generation.

In addition to the fact that it continues to be the world's premier manufacture, the brand is also synonymous with luxury watches due to the extremely small number of watches produced.

This watch is a hand-wound Golden Ellipse reference 3848 manufactured in the 1970s. First introduced in 1968, the Golden Ellipse made a huge impact with its design, which was a departure from the round and rectangular cases that had been used until then.

The ellipse, a fusion of a circle and a rectangle, and the case's aspect ratio (1:1.6181) are said to have been discovered by Greek mathematicians as the 'golden ratio', and are the basis for its name.

The case material is 18k white gold. The width is 27mm and the height is 32mm, but because of its oval shape, it doesn't look as big as the numbers indicate, giving the impression of a smaller size.

The dial is a blue dial with a sunray finish. Speaking of Golden Ellipse, this is the classic color that comes to mind.

Unusually for a Golden Ellipse, diamonds are set at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock. A watch with diamonds may sound very flamboyant, but the very minimalist design allows it to fit in as one of the indexes.

In addition, the σ (sigma) mark is on both sides of SWISS at 6 o'clock on the dial. This is a mark found on watches made by manufacturers belonging to the APRIOR from around 1973 to around 2000, and indicates the use of precious metals such as gold for the dial and indexes.

The purpose of this designation was to "indicate that the watch is of high quality and Swiss made of gold. It is a specification found on watches made by five companies (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, IWC, and Omega), but not all watches have it. For this reason, it is regarded as a rarity among collectors.

The installed movement is hand-wound Cal.215. It is a small movement with a size of 10 line (approximately 22.5 mm) and was introduced around 1978 as a successor to Cal.23-300.
